The purpose of this pilot study was to survey hospitalized medical-surgical patients who smoke and determine their perceived barries to quitting and participating in a free smoking cesstation of patients' perceived barries would allow hospital leaders and interprofessional healthcare teams to develop cessation support program that maximize participation.
Method. This study employed a cross-sectional descriptive design. Decelopment of the 27 item toolwas based on previous cessation surveys and stakeholder interviews Convenience sampling identified 79 current smokers in acute care medical-surgical units at a community-based hospital. Conclusion. A smoking cessation program must be sturcture to include the patient spouse family and friends to increase support. Through
