Abstract: The transition from child to adult service is a crucial time in health of young people who may potential fall into a poorly managed care gap. A multi-site multi staged study was undertaken to identify the key aspect of a transitional programme of care for young people. Through a process of mapping which involved drawing on primary and secondary data a clinical practice benchmark tool was developed. Bechmarks are a health quality performance measurement tool. They provide clinical teams with standards that services can measure themselves against to see how they are doing. They are used in a comparing and sharing activity. using a structure ans systematic approach to share best practice. They offer a mechanism to look at processes and provide an opportunity to analyze skills and attitudes with may be the hidden narrative in benchmarking. This paper describes step in satisfaction. Qualitative data were collected through focus groups workshop interviews from 13 young people with long-term health conditions 11 parents 36 professional and 21 experts lending or transition with in the United Kingdom. Transcripts were analysed using qualitative content analysis

Title : An analytic review of clinical implications from nursing and psychosocial research within swedish pediatric oncology Material Type: printed text Authors: Enskär, Karin, Author ; Huus, Karina, Author ; Björk, Maria, Author Publication Date: 2015 Article on page: p. 550-559 Languages : English (eng) Original Language : English (eng)
in Journal of Pediatric Nursing > Vol.30 No.4 (Jul-Aug) 2015 [11/19/2015] . - p. 550-559Abstract: The purpose of this manuscript is to analyze researchers' suggestions for clinical implications of their findings as stated in recent published articles on nursing and psychosocial research within the setting of Swedish pediatric oncology. Identified categories included staff awareness of the effects of child illness on families, systems for care improvement; provision of quality of care, education and support; and empowerment of children and families. In order to be able to realize these clinical suggestions expanded research is needed as well as continued education and support for staff. 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. in Journal of Pediatric Nursing > Vol.30 No.4 (Jul-Aug) 2015 [11/19/2015] . - p. 560-567Abstract: This study was an observational cross-validation of a Spanish version of the Premie-Neuro, a neurological examination for preterm infants. A cross-cultural translation was used to generate a Spanish version of the scale. The results showed an internal consistency of 0.72 according to Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The intra-class coefficient of comelation for the overall scores was 0.78 Factor analysis provided evidence of construct validity. The Spanish version of the Premie-Neuro was found to be a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating neurological and physical statements for premature infants admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit. 2015 Elsevier Inc. in Journal of Pediatric Nursing > Vol.30 No.4 (Jul-Aug) 2015 [11/19/2015] . - p. 568-579Abstract: The purpose of this study was to test a theoretical model to determine the effect of caregiver anxiety and decision conflict on the health of caregivers of children with ADHD. Cross-sectional analyses were conducted on data derived from caregivers(aged 24-70). Participants completed the Decision Conflict Scale, the Zung Anxiety scale, the Duke Health Profile, and a demographic form. A path model that fit well indicated that anxiety and decision conflict had direct and indirect effects on the caregivers' health. Future study is needed to clarify factors contributing to uncertainty and to decrease emotional symptoms for caregivers, thus promoting their mental health. c 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. in Journal of Pediatric Nursing > Vol.30 No.4 (Jul-Aug) 2015 [11/19/2015] . - p. 580-590Abstract: The purpose of this concurrent mixed-methods study was to 1) examine the factors pediatric intensive care unit nurses consider when assessing and intervening for children who report severe pain and to 2) determine the effect of child behavior and diagnosis on the nurses' pain ratings and intervention choices for written and virtual human vignettes. Quantitative and qualitative results substantiated that despite recommendations to use self-report, many PICU nurses use behavior as the primary indicator to asses and treat pain, even when a child is old enough to articulate pain intensity and there is sufficient cause for pain to be present. o 2015 Elsevier Inc. in Journal of Pediatric Nursing > Vol.30 No.4 (Jul-Aug) 2015 [11/19/2015] . - p. 591-597Abstract: Congenital heart disease is the most common and serious type of infant birth defect. Pulse oximetry screening has been supported in the literature as a valuable tool to aid in the prompt detection of critical defects. Pulse oximetry is easily accessible, inexpensive, and noninvasive, and can be readily performed by clinical nurses at the infant's bedside; however, it remains a technology that is underutilized in newborns. Nurses can be leaders in addressing the need to translate knowledge into practice to improve the morbidity and mortality rates in the newborn population. c 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. Despite evidence of the development of pressure ulcers in the pediatric population, minimal research has been done. Based on observations gathered during quarterly HAPU audits, bedside nursing staff recognized trends in pressure ulcer locations that were not captured using cument pressure ulcer risk assessment tools. Despite common misconceptions, electronic cigarette use does not reduce cigarette use among adolescents and can potentially increase cigarette dependence via nicotine addiction and modeling of smoking behaviors Pediatric nurses and health care providers should be aware of the popularity and safety concerns of electronic cigarettes so that they can properly provide education regarding the possible negative health effects of adolescent electronic cigarette use, raise awareness of this public health concern, and impact policies in their communities.
